Prior to being married with children I often spent my weekends chomping on popcorn with my best buds and enjoying the latest movie releases. We’ll just say times have changed and my weekends are filled with other family friendly activities that sometimes involve going to see family friendly movies. I am finding that Movies On Demand through my cable provider is my outlet to seeing the newest releases for movies unfit for little eyes from the comfort of my own home.

The latest movie that I checked out via Movies On Demand was Resident Evil: Afterlife. I will admit this genre of movie is usually not my first pick but forgoing the hefty price tag of a traditional theater and seeing that two awesome pieces of eye candy, Wentworth Miller and Boris Kodjoe were in it, I decided to give it a try.

This is truly an edge of your seat, peek through the fingers type of movie, well at least for me. The plot is based on the plight of Alice (Milla Jovovich) against The Umbrella Corporation, a company whom she has been trying to destroy since the beginning of the Resident Evil movie series. In this film, she is looking to rescue any living beings that have managed to escape contracting a virus manufactured by the Umbrella Corporation that has turned the majority of humanity into people eating carnivores. Her will to save those that she can takes her from Alaska to Los Angeles, in an effort to lead the few normal people left to a safe haven known as Arcadia. Arcadia’s whereabouts are initially a mystery but once found out the task of getting there unfolds the film’s drama, action and horror.

Being that I am not a connoisseur of these types of movies, and I have not seen the three prior movies in this series, I still got the point of it. At times, I felt the plot was a little all over the place, well developed in some areas, lacking in others. However coupled with the awesome cinematography, action packed scenes that had me jumping in my seat from the safety of my own home along with awesome sound effects and unbelievable stunts all of the pieces came together in the most entertaining manner.

Not sure if I can say I am now team action thriller, however, this movie left a decent impression on me. I would be open to going back and looking at the prior Resident Evil movies, that is if they are available on Movies On Demand! Out of five stars, I would give this a 3.5.
