North Carolina families are you ready…. it’s that time again! Disney on Ice Presents Princesses & Heroes on Oct 1-5 2014 at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, NC. My family and I have attended Disney on Ice shows in the past and we have always had so much fun! We will definitely not miss this one, especially since my daughter’s favorite princesses will be there. There will be 9 performances of magical moments to make some family memories.

Discovery Place ADULT-ONLY After Hours Event!

One of my favorite places to go to with my family is Discovery Place in uptown Charlotte, NC. However, when I am there with my children I never really get a chance to fully enjoy all the cool exhibits because I am so busy making sure they are enjoying themselves. But guess what? It is time for some mommy and daddy fun!

Discovery Place is launching their first “Science on the Rocks” shakes up Charlotte with Science, Cocktails and after work fun! This is an Adult-Only after hours event Friday, July 18th from 5-9pm. This is a great way to have a date night or enjoy a fun evening with friends and be a big kid at Discovery Place. Check out heir newest exhibit Alien Worlds and Androids and get your babysitter booked!

Science on the Rocks blasts off with an out of this world party featuring Alien Worlds and Androids. Geek out in this new exhibition which features Hollywood replicas of famous aliens and androids like Iron Man, C-3PO from Star Wars, T-800 from Terminator and the extraterrestrial from Alien. Then, grab a Nerf gun for a Museum-wide Nerf battle, targeting alien invaders in a carnival-style shootout. Play ‘Angry Birds in Space’ on a giant touch screen or dive into a virtual reality adventure with Oculus Rift. You can even create your own alien in our Think It Up challenge.

But what’s a party without bar games? Challenge your friends to a game of Glow-in-the-Dark Giant Jenga in the black-light aquarium, or try your hand at Catapult Beer Pong. Be sure to stick around past 8:00 p.m. to sample liquid Nitrogen wine slushies while they last. And don’t forget to check out the gravity-defying aerial show from Caroline Calouche & Co. who will be performing solo works on silk, sling and trapeze, as well as sharing some secrets of how they fly with the apparatus.

Unlike fieldtrips from your childhood, Science on the Rocks transforms each floor with a cash bar and music from Channel 96.1, 96.9 The Kat and 106.5 The End. Don’t miss favorite Discovery Place experiences like lying on a bed of nails, jetting up in the Air Chair or exploring Charlotte’s only Rainforest.

Science on the Rocks takes place every third Friday of each month from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Admission is $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Staying on Track #ZonePerfect-Challenge #2

Earlier this year I made my new years resolution to be a healthier me with the help of Blog Forward Challenge by ZonePerfect. It was a slow start at first but I did it! I made a few changes in my life and I am really proud of myself. One of the biggest things I changed was no more dark soda and replace it with water. Since I don’t drink coffee (yes I know whaat!?) dark soda was my go to cup of caffiene. I have tried in the past to give it up but I experienced headaches and mood swings because I needed that caffiene. But this time it was going to be different. I was going to ween myself off of it slowly and drink more water. Well it’s been almost 4 months and I have had no dark soda and I actually love drinking water. Now it’s your turn to join me and make some small changes to become the healthier YOU. Don’t give up, you can do it!

One of the first changes I made was try something new at the gym. In addition to doing Zumba, I added boxing to my workout. What a great work out it has been. I came out of my comfort zone and opened myself up to different kind of workout.

Then I incorporated some of these great ideas on how to eat healthy. Such as giving up the dark soda, eating avocados, swapping ground beef to turkey meat and eating sweet potatoes.
