Should I Vaccinate?

Submitted by Mami Jennifer on 07/13/2011 – 2:15 pmOne Comment

As parents we have probably all been well versed on vaccinations for our children. But I think there has always been much more emphasis on vaccinations for younger children. And as our kids grow older we may not keep ourselves as informed on them or figure that since they are older and stronger they probably don’t need it. To be quite honest, I’m not completely convinced of all vaccinations but I do know that it is our responsibility as parents to educate ourselves and make an informative decision for our children’s sake.

So when researching vaccinations I do try to gather information from a few different sources. I checked out The Vaccine Book by Robert W. Sears, M.D. This book really helped me gain some much needed insight in a way that i could understand. I also made sure to utilize the information on the CDC site which they lay out pretty well and provide some other tools like multimedia, fliers, podcasts and ways to have your questions answered via social media (see Twitter party info. below). With all the wonderful tools available I still also make sure to speak with family, friends, and most importantly Shaunsito’s pediatrician. So during the final decision making process I am comfortable with my choice. And yes, this does seem like an awful lot to do but with so much discussion going on about vaccinations I think all the research I do is well worth it for my child and I think you will agree.

Just keep in mind that sometimes our greatest fears come from the unknown. So, if you go out and find the right tools, take the time to do a little research and educate yourself on vaccinations you may find yourself feeling a little less apprehensive about making a choice. Whether your child is a newborn or a teen you only want what is best and that’s because our kids deserve it!
