Sean Astin & Vox Populi Season 2 Premiere & 4/26 Twitter Party - Get Ready to #RaiseYourVox!

Disclosure: I received a gift from Sean (yup, we’re totally on a first name basis now, that’s just how I roll) as a thank you for supporting his radio show, Vox Populi. But as always, thoughts and opinions are completely my own.

Over the years there have always been topics that I’ve tried to steer away from when spending time with friends, family and people I’ve just met. Talking politics was one of those things that always seemed to rub folks the wrong way. And some people, myself included, didn’t have much of a political foot to stand on. But after becoming a mom I realized it was more than just knowing who you were going to vote for in a presidential election or what was happening on a national level. Sometimes it was knowing who was being elected into the town you live in or what was going on in your own backyard. And other times it was just about being human and living life because politics affects everything we do, on a small and large scale.

Just having conversations on these important topics that affect our lives is the first step.

When my husband and I disagree on things we talk about them and try to respect each others opinions and viewpoints. I won’t sugarcoat it, it isn’t easy and sometimes it’s a struggle but we TRY to keep the communication going. Aren’t the important things in our lives worth the effort of discussing?

It would be great if we could take that approach with others. How can we work as a community, as a country if we don’t at least try to listen to one another? Well, I know some folks that are ready to get these conversations started in a real way and I can’t wait to listen and share my voice!

Sean Astin - actor from Goonies, Lord of the Rings, Rudy, voice of Special Agent Oso & the upcoming Moms’ Night Out - is beginning Season 2 of his political radio show for “the occasionally interested people” on May 1st on a new network, TradioV, airing Thursdays 12-2PT.

His interest in politics and representing the people’s voice is infectious, and he genuinely wants people to understand what is happening with the government, even when it seems too complicated. Whether you are or aren’t interested in politics, he offers an intellectual discussion and doesn’t just want to be heard, he wants to hear the people and their concerns, all while keeping it civil.

I finally recognize that opening up discussions and sharing with others can only make things better and it’s okay to disagree in a civil, mature manner. I’m willing to start sharing my thoughts and opinions, as well as others, so we can start learning from each other for the betterment of our children’s lives.

That has always been the purpose of this blog, to find your voice and speak your mind. “Una Comunidad. Many Voices.” One Community with Many Voices.

Stand up and let your voice be heard! Tell us, what matters to you and what do you want to talk about?

  • Mature, yes! I love that you used that word to describe it. Civil AND mature. Passion in politics is great, but it takes a mature person to let the discussions be had by all and to keep it civil. Excited to see what Sean has in store for season 2, and I hope you’ll be tuning in! Thanks for sharing!
